Los IGF Awards de 2018 premian a Night in the Woods y Baba Is You, entre otros

Dentro de la Game Developers Conference que se celebra estos días en San Francisco se ha celebrado la ceremonia de entrega de los Independent Games Festival Awards de 2018, los premios que, cada año, premian a la producción independiente. El premio grande de este año, el Seumas McNally (que el año pasado lo ganó Quadrilateral Cowboy), se lo ha llevado Night in the Woods, que también se ha llevado el premio a la excelencia narrativa.

El de Infinite Fall competía con otros juegos muy interesantes por el premio de 30.000 dólares: ahí estaban Heat Signature, de Tom Francis; el muy comentado Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, brillante y muy versátil; West of Loathing, que quizá tenga una segunda juventud ahora que sale en Switch; Into the Breach, el siguiente juego de Subset Games y casi tan aplaudido como FTL; e incluso juegos que no han salido aún, como el tremendo Baba is You, otro de los que mejor parados han salidos en los premios.

El juego de Hempuli Oy, que propone puzzles que hay que solucionar modificando las mismas reglas del juego, se llevó los premios a la excelencia en diseño y el de mejor juego de estudiante, una dupla que dice mucho sobre sus posibilidades: no muchos proyectos de este tipo pueden presumir de haber ganado un premio en el que competían con Into the Breach, Shenzhen I/O, de Zachtronics, o Wilmot’s Warehouse, de Richard Hogg y Ricky Haggett.

Por lo demás, seguro que reconocéis algunos de los juegos premiados: Chuchel ha ganado el premio a la excelencia visual; Uurnog Uurnlimited ha ganado por su sonido; Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy se ha llevado el Nuovo Award, el premio a lo experimental, mientras que Puppet Pandemonium, un juego que se controla con marionetas, se ha llevado el alt.ctrl.GDC Award, dedicado a los juegos que experimentan con el control. El ID@Xbox Gaming for Everyone Award ha ido para SpecialEffect, la organización que trabaja para acercar el videojuego a la gente con discapacidad.

El premio del público se lo llevó, por último, Celeste, un juego extraordinario y del que no puedo decir mucho más, excepto que se merece cualquier premio que gane.

    Estos son los premios indies esos en los que tienes que pagar para que el jurado -quizás- se mire el juego y si no pagas no te nominan aunque claramente el juego haya sido de los mejores del año, ¿no?
